Paul and Jacqui are proud to support the Compassion Food Bank on December 12t.h
In a TV interview, a representative from the charity Shelter stated that the majority of Britain’s working population was “just three months away from the poverty line”. This is something that Compassion Food Bank recognised and was therefore set up in January 2013 to help alleviate some of the problems around poverty on a local level.
Compassion Food Bank provides a free food source for people in need in South and Central Manchester as well as a drop in facility for ex-offenders and the wider community. Each food parcel provides enough food to give the user and their family members three meals per day for a minimum of three days. Users can either just drop into Compassion Food Bank where they are assessed or can be referred via a referral agency. Food is kindly donated by the local community as well as businesses, charities and organisations. Any financial donations received are used to purchase food and to cover Compassion Food Banks’ running costs.
During 2013 Compassion Food Bank distributed 1654 food parcels, feeding 2763 people and providing 24,867 meals. Numbers for 2014 have increased substantially.
Compassion Food Bank is a charitable organisation run by dedicated volunteers and is part of Compassion Prison Ministry.
